Yesterday we strengthened our visual spatial intelligence. We asked our art teacher, Miss Davies, to help us understand how visual intelligence is useful in the world. She told us about people who are architects, graphic designers, advertisers, fashion designers and typographers.
Inspired by the designers at Google, we decided to re-design our own names. We aimed to use line, colour, theme and shadow to create eye-catching images and fill a space.
Here are some examples:
Can you recognise our names? Which is your favorite? What can you learn about a person just by looking at their design?
Miss Davies is now helping us strengthen our visual-spatial intelligence even further. In Art lessons, we are becoming real typographers and designing a whole alphabet of letters. Stay tuned to see our display types!

Dear Grade 4
I loved seeing your names in such cool fonts, all created by you!
I wanted to tell you about a project that one of my Grade 10 students did last year: she created her own font and called it Green Smile! She uploaded it to a website that converted it to a program that can be downloaded and can be used on any computer. I thought it was the coolest project.
See it here:

What do you think?

Dear Ms Krengel,
Thank you for reading our blog and commenting. Your comments are very helpful for our learning. We liked the Green Smile font because it looked cool and clever. It looked like she used her naturalist and visual intelligence to design that font. We are going to make fonts like that, too! We can’t wait!
Kind regards,
Grade 4
Dear Ms O’Dwyer
I liked how you post our workd and the questions you have asked.I can recognize the names that we have created and the one that I like is Kaopoon’s because she is very creative and her name is very interesting. I learned that looking at other people’s art really make me have a good feeling. I think art shows what other people see and feel.
Kind regards,
Dave
Dear Ms O’Dwyer,
Designing is a very good thing to do. I like Joshua’s name and Sang won’s name very much. Mine is on there too. It said Hanson. I could tell that Joshua liked the Olympics by looking at his name. I like Visual/Spatial activities a lot. They are my second best thing to do, after sports.

Dear Ms.O’Dwyer
It was such a cool idea to design our name. It was fun to design our name and it reminds me about going to the art museum because there were many projects. I think all the projects were excellent. I think I can recognise all the names and I think Sang Won`s is my favorite. I think I can learn that in there world there are many kinds of art.
I have question. When can we do this again?
kind regards
Joshua
Dear Ms. O’Dwyer
That day I was so happy to write my name and with what I created. It was so much fun I want to do it again. Ms. O’Dwyer, can I do it again?
Did you know I like to draw and color. My father and mother said “I draw and color very well”. I was happy because my father said that. I also want to go to the art museum again because I went in Grade 3.
Kind regards,
Kaopoon
Dear Mrs O’Dwyer
It was a very good lesson to make our name into something funny thing like that. I like Hanson’s one and Kazuki’s one too because they look very cute and funny. I like visual/spatial activities. It reminds me of visiting the 798 art museum.
Kind regards

Dear Ms.O’Dwyer
I really liked the topic about decorating names in different ways. It showed me how to use good visual spatial skills. I would like it if I can do it again. Do you ever think about doing another activity like this? It has a great fun! I felt like I was really a designer. It was so fun!
Kind regards,
Sang Won
Dear Ms.O’Dwyer
I think making cool visual intelligence name cards is smart because then you can see what that person likes. Also, it is creative too!I am excited to make our own font in art class. Have you ever made your own font before?
Kind regards
Kota
Dear Ms O’Dwyer,
Thanks for teaching us to do that. I’ve seen that kind of design in the museum in Canada. I liked Kaopoon’s name the most.
Kind Regards,
Annie
